Also got new arrows, a target, a new ring from my love, and the Hunger Game series in book form. So it's been a pretty fun weekend.

Okay Miss? I'm guessing you are a Miss by your ID. I love dragons, but probably not as much as you do. Do you have any tips on drawing these beautiful creatures you have shown high respect for? I'm working on this dragon-like creature from my novel, and in fact there's two of them but I don't want them to look like I copied from other people. You know when you're drawing, and somebody asks you, "Is that a Pokemon?" in that really dumb high pitch noise and you know it's not? Well, I'm not dissing Pokemon but you get the idea. "No it's not Pokemon you moron, it's my original piece of work!" Nobody understands. :)

I totally understand. I find the best way to improve on drawing any subject, especially fantasy creatures is to study and draw from real life. When I draw dragons I go through my massive collection of images of animals, dinosaurs, fossils, etc and use them for inspiration and to help draw them more realistically. For example, with western dragon its good to look at the anatomy of dinosaurs, seeing how they stand, how they balance themselves with their huge tails and legs, etc. A great reference for dragon wings would be looking at bat wings. Also study reptiles, pay attention to their anatomy, the patterns of their scales, the different size and shapes, marking, and so on. The more you design your dragon off of real living creatures or extinct animals the better you'll give the illusion of the beast your designing to look more realistic. It can also help looking at artist that inspire you and study how they design their creations. However, always be careful not to copy. It's a lot of work, but it's good to start building a collection of photos or books to use as references. Even just Googling pictures can help a lot. It'll take practice to get it down just right. Hell, I'm still trying to improve my dragons. It just takes time and practice. I hope this helps!

Oh okay, I have for the most part taken other things that were realistic and made them abstract. But when it comes to drawing things like mythical creatures, aliens, dragons, etc... I actually have to not bs my way through lol
